Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) and the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) are carrying out an investigation into the illegal-import of kiwifruit material propagated at a suburban Auckland property. It is understood that kiwifruit seeds were illegally imported from China in 1997 without going through New Zealand quarantine procedures, and the plants have been growing since 1999.
