The great Tauranga Moana biosecurity hunt: calling all adventurers
1 April 2021

Have you got what it takes to hunt down the 18 ‘Most Wanted’ invasive insects, animals, weeds, and diseases and protect the Bay of Plenty?

From tomorrow (Friday), the great biosecurity hunt will go live – a simple interactive virtual hunt aimed at raising awareness and entertaining kids over the Easter and school holidays.

There are hunts in Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, and Papamoa. Complete the hunt closest to where you live or do all three. There are six invasive insects, animals, weeds, and diseases ‘hiding’ throughout each location that you catch using any smartphone and the free Actionbound geocaching app.

Each hunt is between 3.5-4km’s and you can do them on a bike, scooter, skateboard or on your feet anytime between 2 April and 3 May.

Each completed hunt goes into the draw to win from a $2500 prize pool supporting our local tourism and hospitality businesses. These will be drawn at the end of every week and range from paddle boarding to fine dining, to virtual reality and much, much more.

Details and step-by-step guides for playing are available at www.greathunt.co.nz. Good luck!

The hunt has been put together by the Tauranga Moana Biosecurity Capital (TMBC) initiative, of which KVH is an active member, raising biosecurity awareness throughout the community and local schools as an extra layer of protection for our industry and orchards. If you’re in Mount Maunganui look out for our giant banner about the hunt on the grain solo at the corner of Totara St and Hewletts Road too.
