The final stage in the KVH/Zespri product testing programme is field testing. The efficacy of products for the control of Psa-V is being evaluated using potted plants on an infected orchard in Te Puke. The plants have been propagated Psa-V free and are treated with products prior to being shifted to the trial site where they are actively inoculated with Psa-V. Symptoms in the form of leaf spot development and shoot dieback are subsequently monitored. Products are applied using protocols agreed with the suppliers.

Before fielding testing of products can be undertaken, they may require first an authorisation by the Ministry for Primary Industries's ACVM Group, and/or EPA.  This is particularly true for products that are not already registered under the ACVM Act.
